FAQ

Common questions.

Do I need to be good at math?

  • You need the basics, but this is about practice and improvement, not perfection.
  • Your accuracy goes up as you play. The spiral review format means you'll see the same concepts multiple times across sessions.
  • Students in honors or advanced tracks get the most out of it, but any motivated learner who wants to compete is welcome.

What is Gimkit?

  • A fast-paced online game platform where students answer math questions while competing in modes like Capture the Flag, Don't Look Down, and 1v1 battles.
  • Think gaming meets math mastery.

How is the winner determined?

  • We track three stats: correct answers, accuracy, and game placement. Each is ranked across all players in your division.
  • Your final standing is the composite average of those three ranks. Lowest composite wins.
  • Season leaders in individual categories also earn bonus prizes.

Can we join mid-season?

  • Registration closes at the start of each season.
  • You can join a waitlist and be first to register for the next season. Seasons run 6-8 weeks throughout the school year.

How many matches per week?

  • One 45-minute match per week on Saturdays.
  • Each session includes a brain teaser warmup, competition rounds, and a final leaderboard update. That's it. No homework, no extra sessions.

What are the prizes?

  • Top players in each division win cash: $100 for 1st, $50 for 2nd, $25 for 3rd.
  • Plus $10 bonuses for stat category leaders and most improved.
  • Prizes are awarded at the end of each season.

Is it virtual or in-person?

  • Matches run on Zoom + Gimkit so you can compete from anywhere.
  • We also plan in-person meetup events for Princeton-area players. You only need a computer and internet connection.
